Her feet had grown. Her shoes were too small. She needed new ones like right now. We dropped hubby off at the church where he had another commitment and we headed off to the mall. We quickly found shoes and had about an hour to kill before we headed back to the church.
I asked her if she wanted to get something to eat. I even gave her the choice of restaurant. Of course she chose McDonalds… probably because we never eat there. 😉 But I played along. We shared some chicken nuggets, fries, and a smoothie. We sat in the tall big people swivel chairs at a tall table. We dipped fries in ketchup. We chatted. We just hung out.
It wasn’t anything planned or even anything really unusual. But she said it was an “awesome day” later that evening. She was content.
I could’ve driven home, fixed a quick dinner, and then headed back out to the church. Instead, I used the moment to be intentional about offering her a little something out of the ordinary, something that was her choice. I tried to focus on her and show her that she’s important.
Now to be intentional like that more often!
